Me, as a pimply 17 year old in Siem Reap Cambodia
Why the title Suitcase On My Sleeve?
Honestly I originally I chose it because it was fun and punchy. But I do try and apply it to every post I write. I am constantly travelling – often spontaneously – and I almost always have a suitcase packed and ready to go on my next adventure.
Why are you a travel writer?
In high school (and basically all my life) I loved writing stories, both fiction and non-fiction so it was something that always felt very natural. I’ve been travelling ever since I could remember, with long drives with my family around Outback Australia, but I think I really caught the travel bug when I was 8 on my first overseas trip to Hong Kong. Mixing both a love for travel and writing, this profession felt like such a natural fit for me, and something I originally started for fun.
I believe in writing high quality stories, so my readers can feel like they are there with me, and maybe inspire them to walk in the same footsteps around the world.
Have you been published anywhere?
I’m currently a full-time travel writer, and I have trained professionally as a journalist. My work has been featured in The Times, Hostelworld, Daily Mail and #ThisMuchIKnow, to name a few.
How many countries have you travelled to?
30 countries so far, around Europe, Middle East, Asia, Oceania and North America.
I’m pretty desperate to go to Central and South America!
Can I contribute to your blog?
Of course! Please get in touch through the contact page and we can discuss the deets!
What’s your favourite destination?
For any traveller lover, this is an incredibly difficult decision to make, so I have a few. The South of France is the most magical and picturesque place I’ve ever to, so that’s definitely at the top. I’ve been to Paris 4 times and it still feels completely new to me. And Siem Reap in Cambodia is like a second home. Slovenia is also a favourite!
What’s your favourite movie?
I am a massive cinema buff, and I love movies just as much as travelling. I looooooove La La Land, All About Eve and Lost Highway so that is probably my answer (for now). You can also follow my Letterboxd account.
What’s your favourite book?
Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte. I also recommend the book East of Eden by John Steinbeck and anything by Ernest Hemingway.
Where are you from?
I’m a typical travel-obsessed Aussie from the city of Melbourne. I’m currently based in London and constantly picking up Londoner traits each day like fast-walking everywhere, drinking a G&T whenever it’s slightly above average weather, going to vintage markets on weekends or spending £12+ on a cocktail.
Top destination on my bucket list?
Peru! I’ve been dreaming of visiting Machu Picchu since I was a kid.
What’s a weird fact about you?
I was an extra on the Australian TV show Ja’mie Private School Girl. I’m also left handed.
