Budapest! You must of heard about this city from heaps of travellers. Vibrant nightlife, beautiful buildings and its delicious food are just some of the things that make it such a great holiday destination.
I went early September for 3 full days, which I think is good amount of time to see a lot of the city. When I visit big cities I tend to buy a hop on hop off bus ticket to make the most of my time and to learn a little bit of history and culture too!
On the first day I saw St Stephen’s Basilica and the Hungarian State Opera House – which finished with an Opera performance!
Day two was a busy day, I walked around Buda Castle for a few hours. I fell in love with Fisherman’s Bastion, not just for the views but also for the stunning architecture! While it was raining, I took a river cruise along the Danube River. It was a great way to see the incredible parliament building. While I didn’t go at night when it’s all lit up, it was still super captivating.

The third day I planned on spending the whole afternoon relaxing. So I headed off to the Szechenyi Baths for some rejuvenation time. I went early, around 10am to best avoid the crowds. This was a good time to go because it wasn’t too crowded. I had a lovely time but I did fall asleep in the sun and got a bit sunburnt! Definitely not an overrated tourist spot though.

Now for the ruin bars! My hostel ran a pub crawl so I ticked off a lot of bars off my list. My favourites: the famous Szimpla Kert (it was massive and super cool with heaps of fairy lights), Grandio (SUPER cheap and also a hostel) and Ellátó Kert (very chill vibe).
Food is very cheap, and I had a delicious Hungarian meal of Paprika Goulash. I also managed to get a bottle of rose for £1.50!
I stayed at Meander Hostel, which is a great place as a solo-traveller as they have a very social environment and the staff are a lot of fun.
